He appears so overconfident that he told CNN anchor Dana Bash that he would welcome President Biden here to campaign for him. I wrote about a month ago that Shapiro had the better opportunity to move to the center to snag those critical swing voters, but he shows no sign of doing so. Josh Shapiro did everything but get out and personally campaign for Doug Mastriano during the primary, and the conventional wisdom dictated that Mastriano would be his easiest general election opponent. Let’s face it, those folks out there who are trying to find scarce baby formula to sustain and nurture the treasures of their lives, infant children, have pretty much figured out how they stand on the whole issue of “choice,” don’t you think? While “abortion rights” may be a huge issue in faculty lounges everywhere, it just isn’t a kitchen table issue for most voters who are working for a living and are now struggling to afford gas for the car and food for the table. You would think that after one look at those numbers, the Shapiro campaign would be spending those millions he has squirreled away on ads touting his ideas for improving Pennsylvania’s economy, but no, it seems that so far, Shapiro is a one-trick pony who can only talk endlessly about what a Gov. The only other issue in double digits is gun control at 16.4%. When it comes to issues, Pennsylvania voters are no different from their fellow Americans, with almost 27% citing the economy as their No. Finally, 54% say Pennsylvania is on the wrong track versus 29% who think we’re on the right track: bad, bad numbers for the incumbent party. Even worse for the Democrats and Josh Shapiro, only 17% of Pennsylvanians see their standard of living better than it was four years ago, and that is not likely to improve between now and November.
